Bardiya Village Wildlife Camp

Bardiya National park is one of the least explored regions of Nepal which is still in natural wilderness. The area of the National Park is approximately 1,000 sq. Km and is situated in the west Nepal about 585 Km southwest of Kathmandu and 625 Km from Nainital India.

The park mainly offers excellent opportunities for encountering the largest Royal Bengal Tiger and the largest Asiatic elephant (Raja Gaj).Challenging Experiences with spotted leopard, greater one horned rhinoceros, sloth bear, deer, antelopes, like blue bull and black bucks, freshwater dolphins and more than 50 different species of mammals and over 450 different types of birds such as giant hornbill, Trogon woodpecker, storks etc. The Karnali River which is flowing through the national park, freshwater dolphin and other aquatic wildlife, such as gharial, marsh crocodile, , turtle etc. are found.

Ranging in diversity of the flood plains area to very dense jungle, Bardiya National Park is not only of habitat for wide variety of wildlife but also many endangered species.. Besides flora and fauna the area is also well known for the indigenous Tharu people and their traditional way of living.

Bardiya Village Wildlife Camp (BVWC) is a high quality jungle camp situated just outside the Royal Bardiya National Park in west Nepal, It has 12 typical Tharu type huts with twin beds with attached European toilets and shower. It has a large central dinning hall cum well stocked bar which is also the reception and briefing center for all guests. Continental, Chinese, Nepalese and Indian Cuisine are served to guests. Hygienic standards are maintained in food and beverages. All the staff is local who are always eager to welcome their guests..

Activities

Bardiya Village Wildlife Camp (BVWC) offers a wide variety of activities which includes: elephant safari deep into the National Park provides excellent viewing of wildlife. A scenic raft trip down the Karnali River offers aquatic wildlife viewing of species such as fresh water dolphin, otters, turtles, gharial, other aquatics and bird life in abundance. The jeep safari through the National Park provides added opportunity to view the wildlife of Bardiya. Within the park is a net work of wild life trails along which one can explore the area accompanied by experienced naturalist and wildlife trackers. Excellent photographic opportunities are plentiful. Serene walk to the local village inhabited by the Tharu People will give an insight of village life. Bird watching trips inside or outside the National Park is fun for bird lovers. Other activities include elephant briefing by one of the naturalists at the elephant stable. A cultural Tharu dance program with campfire is organized at the camp. Anglers can enjoy fishing the great mahasheer fish in the Karnali River which can be organized. The BVWC is a unique place to stay for adventure seekers.

How to get there

1.One can reach Birdiya from Nainital within 8 hours and can enjoy the rural life of India and Nepal during journey and also the urban life of Mahendra Nagar . Roads are in excellent condition.

2- There are various flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgung. Time duration is approximately 1 hour 10 minutes. Flights are conducted daily. Airport transfer are conducted by Y.T.D.O. for its guests. The jeep transfer from the airport to the camp is approximately 2 hours drive.

3 -One can also reach Royal Bardiya National Park directly by regular bus services from Nainital ,Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and other various parts of India and Nepal.

Note-Indian tourists do not need passport and visa .Foreigners while entering Nepal via India can avail visa at Mahendra Nagar Immigration Office.

Charges

Climate

The park has three distinct seasons, each providing a unique experience. From October through early April the weather is dry. The days are warm, and the nights are cool and pleasant. From April to June the temperatures warm up, peaking upto 45°C in May. The hot sticky days give way to the monsoon rains that lasts until September

नैनीताल के पास 3500 वर्ष पुरानी गुफा

पर्यटन स्थल के रूप में मशहूर सरोवरनगरी से 17 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित हाथीखाल क्षेत्र में अंग्रेजों द्वारा वर्ष 1900 में बसाए गए बाना गांव के पास कुदरत की एक और नियामत का पता चला है। एक घुमक्कड़ की नजरों में आई अद्भुत गुफा को देख वैज्ञानिक भी दंग हैं। चार मीटर लम्बी और दो मीटर चौड़ी गुफा में ढे़ड दर्जन से अधिक शिव लिंग हैं। हैरत वाली बात यह है कि आम तौर पर प्राकृतिक रूप से मिलने वाले शिवलिंग लाइम स्टोन पर बने होते हैं लेकिन इस गुफा में सैंड स्टोन पर बने हुए हैं।

नैनीताल का निकटवर्ती बाना गांव अचानक ही चर्चाओं में आ गया है। वजह अदुभुत गुफा का मिलना। इस स्थान को बल्दियाखान से करीब तीन और हल्द्वानी के फतेहपुर से करीब एक घंटे पैदल चलकर पहुंचा जा सकता है. एक स्थानीय घुमक्कड़ दीपक बिष्ट की नजर सबसे पहले साल और बांज के घने जंगलों से घिरी इस गुफा पर पड़ी। उसने वैज्ञानिकों को इसकी जानकारी दी। यूजीसी के वैज्ञानिक व हजारों वर्षों के दीर्घकालीन मौसम पर शोधरत डा.बीएस कोटलिया ने गुफा का मुआयना कर पाया कि गुफा 3,500 से 4,000 वर्ष पुरानी हो सकती है। उनका कहना है कि गुफाओं में प्राकृतिक रूप से शिव लिंग चूने के पत्थर पर बनते हैं मगर इस गुफा का भीतरी आवरण बालू की चट्टानों से निर्मित है, बालू एवं चूने की चट्टानों का यह मिश्रण भू-विज्ञान की दृष्टि से बेहद आश्चर्यजनक संयोग है। ऐसा हो सकता है कि गुफा के भीतर जिस पानी से शिव लिंग बने हैं वह पानी केल्सियम कार्बोनेट युक्त हो। डा.कोटलिया ऐसी गुफाओं की ऐसी शिव लिंग नुमा आकृतियों से ही दीर्घकालीन मौसम पर शोध करते हैं. बताया जाता है कि एक वर्ष में एक चालला बनता है लिहाजा छल्लों की संख्या गुफा की आयु बता देती है । शिव लिंग बनने के लिए पानी जिम्मेदार होता है। पानी के अधिक या कम होने की दशा में शिव लिंग की बनावट पर भी प्रभाव पड़ता है। इन तमाम अध्ययनों के बाद जलवायु में हुए परिवर्तन के विषय में जाना जा सकता है। गुफा में करीब एक दर्जन शिवलिंग हैं, तथा देवी-देवताओं की प्रतिमाएं भी उभरी हैं। गुफा के आसपास काफी मात्रा में गंधक भी मौजूद है, जिससे क्षेत्र से भू गर्भीय भ्रंश गुजरने की पुष्टि भी होती है।
